Nutrition from Water (NXW) Secures Key Portugal 2030 Grants to Advance Innovation and Growth in the Algarve
Nutrition from Water (NXW), a next-generation nutrition company pioneering marine-based proteins and affordable nutrition, has been awarded and shortlisted for significant Portugal 2030 grants designed to strengthen innovation, research, and entrepreneurial capacity in the Algarve region.
Under the Algarve Recruitment of Highly Qualified Human Resources by Companies initiative, NXW has successfully secured €446,264 in approved funding, supporting a total approved cost of €1.1 million. This grant enables the company to integrate highly qualified professionals into its research and development team, enhancing capabilities in innovation, qualification, and internationalisation.
Building on this momentum, NXW has also applied for the Algarve Qualified Entrepreneurship Associated to Knowledge programme. This initiative supports early-stage, knowledge-intensive companies in the region and aims to strengthen technology-driven entrepreneurship aligned with the RIS3 Algarve strategy and EREI Algarve priorities. NXW’s proposed project, representing a total investment of €938,775, focuses on expanding innovation infrastructure and accelerating technology transfer within the sustainable nutrition sector.

The grants will support NXW’s mission to unlock affordable, circular nutrition from marine resources while strengthening the Algarve’s position as a European centre for blue biotechnology and food innovation.

A Nutrition from Water (NXW), empresa biotecnológica dedicada à nutrição humana acessível e sustentável, pioneira em proteínas marinhas, foi recentemente distinguida e selecionada para importantes apoios no âmbito do Portugal 2030, destinados a reforçar a inovação, a investigação e o empreendedorismo qualificado na região do Algarve.
No âmbito do programa Algarve 2024_6 – Recrutamento de Recursos Humanos Altamente Qualificados por Empresas, a NXW obteve um financiamento aprovado de €446.264, num investimento total de €1,1 milhões. Este apoio permitirá à empresa integrar profissionais altamente qualificados na sua equipa de Investigação e Desenvolvimento (I&D), reforçando as suas competências em inovação, qualificação e internacionalização.
Em continuidade com esta trajetória, a NXW submeteu também uma candidatura ao programa Algarve 2025_9 – Empreendedorismo Qualificado Associado ao Conhecimento, que apoia empresas jovens e intensivas em conhecimento na região. O projeto apresentado pela NXW, com um investimento total de €938.775 e um incentivo de €657.142, visa expandir a infraestrutura de inovação e acelerar a transferência de tecnologia no setor da nutrição sustentável, em alinhamento com a Estratégia RIS3 Algarve e as prioridades EREI Algarve.
Graças a este apoio, a NXW estabeleceu o seu Centro Global de Investigação e Desenvolvimento (I&D) no Algarve, posicionando a região como o núcleo da inovação e desenvolvimento de produtos de proteína marinha da empresa. Este novo centro de I&D servirá de base às colaborações científicas globais da NXW, acelerando a sua missão de transformar subprodutos marinhos em nutrição sustentável e de elevado valor.
